It has always been a dream of mine to go to a beach resort that looks exactly like the postcard and pictures on the brochure. Over the past few months, I’ve seen a Chinese travel program on Boracay and I was impressed with the blue sky, clear sea and white beach. The name “Boracay” sounds so far away that I never realize that the place is just in Philippines. Just a few weeks after the travel program, my friend PY was talking about this travel article that she has read from a magazine when she was on board SQ. The idea of visiting Boracay struck to our head and it became our wish list.
So you can guess what happen when I was assigned to stay in Philippines for 6 weeks due to work purposes. I persuaded her to fly over from Shanghai so that we can rot on a sunny beach for a few days. She agreed and WHEM we go.
It was all so exciting when she arrived to Manila on 2 Jul. I was busy packing to go over to Boracay and also I was trying my best to packed my suitcase for the final departure on 7 Jul to go home. With little sleep, we went to the Aquino International airport on 3 Jul, I’ve a confession to make. When planning for the Boracay trip. PY was not able to provide much feedback and since she could not confirm her flight details to Manila, we have to buy the air tickets and book the accommodation at the very last minute. All the cheap flights and promotion were no longer available. In the end, I risked it by booking the trip via an agency that I’ve only seen on a website. Yes, I will not advise others to try this stunt unless you are truly desperate. So I told PY of my worry of getting con, L
Imagine our reaction when we reach Aquino T3 airport and were advised the flight numbers that we have been booked on is not available at all. I was horrified and immediately called the agency. The coordinator kept on insisting that we were booked on the flight and wants to speak the Cebu Pacific rep. The rep refused to talk to her and we were struck with no flight. In the end, PY (being the calmer person) continue to talk to the Cebu Pacific rep while I was talking to the coordinator. PY managed to dig out more information and we finally knew what happened. One of the planes from another airline has an accident at the Catican Airport. This causes all the flights to be diverted to Kaliebo (it’s about 90 minutes away from the Ferry Terminal to Boracay. We were delayed for about 3 hours. After arriving Kaliebo, we have to take a 90 minute bus ride before boarding their “ferry” to Boracay. What an adventure! We were so glad to see the white sandy beach that we ignore our Singaporean instincts and just settle down on a beach front seafood restaurant and have our first dinner in Boracay. The food was slightly better than average but I most impressed with the prawns as my experience with prawns in Manila were all disappointing. It’s my first time drinking beer in the beach watching sun set and all the troubles and resources taken is worth it. The sun set was beautiful but I was with the wrong sort of companion. :p Don’t get me wrong, traveling with PY is fun but it would have been great if we have more friends with us or if I am with a hunk instead. LOL
